In Loving Memory of Dr. Joseph DePierro

Dr. DePierro loved Seton Hall and especially the College of Education and Human Services. He was an undergraduate at SHU, a faculty member, program director, department chair, accreditation leader, and our dean. He was a leader that inspired hard work, innovation, and devotion to the central tenets of our college mission: service to children, families, and communities.

Dean Joe loved coming to work as our leader. He embraced challenges and saw them as opportunities. He welcomed new ideas and encouraged creativity. He celebrated our victories and cheered us on. Like an actor’s director, he was a professor’s dean. At heart, Dr. DePierro was a natural teacher who never lost his passion for what it meant to trigger the ‘aha’ moment for a student.

Dr. DePierro’s memory will remain with us, supported by the programs, relationships, and opportunities he helped to create.

In memory of our colleague, leader, and friend,
Grace M. May

Kappa Delta Pi members who demonstrate service and commitment to the Honor Society goals throughout the year can earn a special stole to wear at graduation. Honor stoles are awarded to graduating members who have satisfied the optional service requirements at the KDP Annual Induction Ceremony held in April. Ideally, Service Honor Stole activity should be a mixture of service to the chapter, to the profession, and to the community at large. At least 30 points must be accrued per year in order to earn the Service Honor Cord.

There are three ways to earn points:

Attending meetings/programs/co-sponsored programs: 5 points for each meeting/program attended. Meetings/Programs are very important, as we use these for planning and carrying out chapter goals.

Serving on KDP committees/attending KDP webinars: 5 points. (i.e. Participating in a fundraiser, Assisting in KDP functions and activities, Attending a KDP conference)

Volunteer Service: 30 hrs = 15 points. (i.e. Any educationally or community oriented service such as library storytelling, the YMCA, tutoring, SHU Pirate Mentor, SHU 500, Mary Jennings Scholarship fundraiser, etc. )

New Blog Under Construction!!!

Xi Gamma is looking forward to a fresh blog face for the upcoming academic year! An e-mail will be sent to all members once the page is complete.
